The Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (“ASAP”) is committed to protecting your personal information. For purposes of this Privacy Policy, “we,” “us,” or “our” means ASAP. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information that we collect about you, the steps we take to protect this information, and how we use and disclose this information to assist members. For purposes of this Privacy Policy, “personal information” means any information that relates to you as an individual and could reasonably be used to identify you. This Privacy Policy applies to our collection and use of personal information through this website and any related websites, applications, tools, or platforms (the “Services”), as well as through any other means where a link or reference to this Privacy Policy is provided.
Your Personal Information. When you access or use the Services, or otherwise interact with us, we may collect certain categories of personal information about you, such as your name, date of birth, nationality, contact information, immigration status and A-number, and other background information like your education and employment experiences. We may also collect information about you through your communications to us, including questions you send to us, communication preferences, and survey responses. How We Use Your Personal Information. We may use the personal information we collect from or about you to assist members and provide and improve the Services, to track our donor base, to manage our website, to hire staff or contractors; to fulfill our contractual obligations; to communicate with you; and to ensure the safety and security of our members, staff and other assets. We may also aggregate, anonymize, or otherwise de-identify your personal information and use it for any purpose permitted by law.
When you use the Services, we may send one or more cookies (which are small text files) to your computer or mobile device, to help analyze our web page flow, customize our content, measure effectiveness, and promote trust and safety. Disclosing Your Personal Information. ASAP understands that information security is of critical importance to asylum seekers. As a result, we will do everything we can to ensure that our members’ information is not shared with the government, unless our members have explicitly consented for us to do so. Specifically, we may disclose your personal information to any business entity that is or becomes part of our corporate family; to third party vendors who provide services in support of our operations; to relevant third parties in connection with a corporate transaction, such as a merger or restructuring; where required in order to comply with applicable laws or defend our rights or claims against us; and, in certain cases, to other third parties with your consent. ASAP will do our best to protect member information against any subpoena or government demand.
Protecting Your Personal Information. We have implemented and maintain commercially reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and security of your personal information. Please note, however, that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. We therefore cannot guarantee and do not warrant the absolute security of your personal information. We retain your personal information for no longer than reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we collected it or to comply with the law, prevent fraud, or exercise our legal rights. Depending on your location, the personal information we collect about you may be transferred to a jurisdiction that does not provide the same level of protection of personal information as the jurisdiction in which you reside..

If you do not wish to receive legal or marketing communications from us, you can opt-out by using the unsubscribe process at the bottom of the email or by replying “STOP” to the text message, but you may still receive administrative or transactional emails from us. Although your changes will be reflected in active user databases, we may retain all information you submit for a variety of purposes, including backups and archiving, prevention of fraud and abuse, and analytics. In order to fulfill your request, we may require additional information from you.
Children Under 13. We do not knowingly collect or maintain information directly from persons under 13 years of age (“children”). If you are under 13 years of age, then please do not use or access the Services at any time or in any manner. If we learn that information has been collected through the Services from children and without verifiable parental consent, then we will take the appropriate steps to delete this information. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us using the contact information below to request that we delete the information from our systems.

ASAP members may opt-in to receive text message notifications from ASAP. “ASAP Member” alerts will include important information about ASAP membership, legal updates, and other news. If you are accepted as a member, you will receive a text message with a link to your membership card. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. You can text STOP to unsubscribe.
