ASAP has reached 350,000 members! We are so excited to share this news with you. With over 350,000 members today and thousands of new members joining each week, ASAP’s members represent the largest community of asylum seekers in the United States.
ASAP’s members are asylum seekers from nearly every country in the world. Today, the 12 most common countries of origin in ASAP’s membership include China, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, and Venezuela.
ASAP’s members also speak thousands of different languages. The most common languages that ASAP members speak are Spanish (spoken by 60% of ASAP’s members) and English (spoken by 10% of ASAP’s members).
In the United States, ASAP’s members live across the country, in every U.S. state and territory. This map shows where ASAP’s members currently live in the continental United States. Green means that there are ASAP members who live in that area. Yellow and orange mean that there is an especially high number of ASAP members who live in that area. It is very likely that you live close to another ASAP member!
ASAP’s members can improve the asylum system by working together. Already you have won huge victories — not only for yourselves, but for many asylum seekers and immigrants building their lives in the United States. Over 150,000 asylum seekers have been able to receive work permits because of ASAP members’ efforts, and last month ASAP members won work permit extensions that saved thousands of immigrants from losing their jobs!
“It is great that more people will be eligible for their work permits,” one member shared. Her message to other ASAP members: “Never stop fighting! Remember that together, we accomplish a lot.”
To every ASAP member — thank you so much for being part of our community, and for helping our community grow. Many new members have told us that they learned about ASAP through other ASAP members. The process of seeking asylum can be difficult, but you are not alone.
We cannot wait to see what all of ASAP’s members will accomplish together. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience as we raise more money, hire more staff, and grow to provide more services and opportunities for our members!
